Does Kairo need internet?
No for core nearby and memory features. Internet is used for update information and optional services such as encrypted Google Drive backup.
Does Kairo continuously track me on a public map?
No. Kairo does not operate a public people map. Optional approximate moment locations stay in your private history. Find shares temporary guidance with one trusted connection only after consent.
Does adding someone add me back?
No. Connections are independent. Scan each other’s Kairo Codes so both phones can recognize the relationship.
What happens after reinstalling or changing phone?
The new installation creates new device trust. Encrypted restore can recover history, but both people must refresh the connection in person before future detection and commands resume.
Will refreshing a connection delete memories?
No. Refresh changes the trusted device fields behind the existing person. Their Timeline, notes, favorites, media, locations, badges, and Memory Books remain attached.
How much battery does Kairo use?
Background scanning uses low-power mode and hardware/system filtering where available. Foreground Radar, Around, Find, and short movement boosts temporarily request faster scanning. Actual battery impact varies by phone and Android vendor.
How much data can Kairo store?
Text moments and locations are compact. Photos, short videos, and encrypted media backups are the main storage users. Timeline and media screens page data so a multi-year history is not loaded all at once.
Can I delete photos or backups?
Yes. Remove an attachment from its moment, change a Memory Book background, delete individual Drive backup copies, or remove all Kairo cloud backups. Deleting a cloud copy does not delete local memories.
Can strangers send me Find or Say hi?
No. Around users cannot use trusted command actions. Find and Say hi require an existing trusted connection and authenticated device context.
Why does Kairo show a permanent notification?
Android requires a visible foreground-service notification for long-running nearby Bluetooth work. It tells you that Kairo is actively listening instead of hiding background activity.
Is Kairo available on iPhone?
Kairo is currently available on Android. The identity and Bluetooth protocol are being designed with future cross-platform compatibility in mind, but iOS availability is not announced.
