Find with Flare and Say hi

Understand Kairo’s direct nearby commands, reliable delivery, consent, temporary navigation, UWB precision, and friendly Say hi notifications.

Direct commands between trusted phones

Kairo’s command system sends small authenticated messages directly between trusted nearby devices. Commands use acknowledgements, retries with spacing, expiry, deduplication, and rate limits to reduce silent failures, repeated alerts, and message flooding.

Find with Flare

Sends an attention-catching notification to a trusted nearby connection. Opening it shows a consent request. Only approval starts temporary navigation updates.

Say hi

Sends a friendly hand-wave notification. Everyone can receive it; sending is an earned feature unlock for that connection. It never grants location access.

    Kairo attempts a direct GATT command over the trusted device relationship and retries the same request identifier for a short bounded window if needed.

    The receiver gets a notification

    Whether Kairo is foreground or background, a valid request should create an Android notification and vibration when permitted.

    Open the consent screen

    Tapping the notification opens Kairo and presents the pending request if it is still valid. The receiver may accept or ignore it.

    Navigate temporarily

    Approval returns authenticated consent and temporary location/navigation material. Short packet gaps resume the same session instead of asking for consent again.

How direction works

Compatible devices may use Ultra-Wideband (UWB) for precise bearing. Otherwise, Kairo estimates whether the Bluetooth signal strengthens while you move or rotate. The fallback can guide a search but cannot produce an AirTag-style absolute arrow from Bluetooth alone. Distance and fallback direction are not safety-critical navigation.

Say hi unlock behavior

Say hi is an easter-egg feature earned through a meaningful memory history with a particular connection. A person who has not unlocked sending can still receive a hand-wave notification. This prevents the awkward case where an unlocked sender reaches a trusted person whose own milestone is lower.
