Encrypted backup and restore

Set up private Google Drive backup, protect your recovery code, choose media options, manage stored copies, and safely restore memories on a new phone.

Before you enable backup

Backup is optional. Kairo encrypts a backup on your phone before uploading it to the private Kairo app-data area of your Google Drive. Other Drive apps cannot browse that area. A recovery code is required to decrypt the archive on another phone.

Enable Google Drive backup

    Open Backup & Restore

    Go to Profile → Your Kairo Data → Backup & Restore, then choose Set up encrypted backup.

    Save the recovery code

    Store the complete recovery code and enter it once inside Kairo to confirm that you saved it correctly.

    Connect Google Drive

    Choose the Google account you want to use. Kairo requests only the private app-data scope, not access to normal Drive documents.

    Choose media and network options

    Photos may be included. Short videos are off by default because they make archives larger. Enable Wi-Fi only if automatic backups should avoid metered data.

    Run or wait for backup

    Choose Back up now for an immediate copy. Automatic backup currently checks every 24 hours.

View and delete stored backups

Open View stored backups to see encrypted copy dates, sizes, latest status, and the active retention policy. Kairo keeps up to three complete generations. You may delete an individual older copy; while automatic backup is active, Kairo keeps at least one good copy. Use Delete Google Drive backups from the main backup screen to remove every cloud copy.

Restore on a new phone

    Start from a fresh Kairo installation

    Choose Restore memories from Google Drive before adding new connections or moments.

    Choose your Google account and backup

    Kairo lists encrypted copies in its private app-data area. Select the generation you want.

    Unlock with the recovery code

    Enter the exact code saved for that backup. Kairo verifies the decrypted archive before changing local data.

    Review and restore

    Review people, moments, notes, favorites, and media counts. Choose whether included media should be restored.

    Refresh connections later

    Histories return immediately, but nearby features remain disabled until each current phone is trusted in person.
